ISSUES FOR 2019 CITY COUNCIL

Reduce Carbon Footprint Items :

*Solar Panel Projects

**Hybrid Vehicles for all City Transportation

*The solar panel project would include City Hall, all Libraries, all Fire  Stations, Police Station, Senior Housing Centers, Public Schools, City Parks, Recreation Center, Greenmead, Wilson Barn, City Street Lights, City Parks and other appropriate city sites that may be applicable for Solar Panels.

* Highland Park, MI & Toronto, ON https://www.forbes.com/sites/miriamtuerk/2019/03/14/smart-cities-are-going-green-because-it-costs-less/#78d05efb40fe

*Madonna University https://www.hometownlife.com/story/news/local/livonia/2016/12/13/felician-sisters-of-north-america-solar-panels-energy-renewable-madonna-university-montessori-center-livonia/95139868/

*Public Schools and examples of Solar Projects.

https://news.energysage.com/solar-panels-for-schools-how-k-12s-and-universities-can-benefit-from-solar/

**Hybrid vehicles is an excellent way to reduce ourcarbon footprint. Think of all the City Vehicles we have. There are the Inspection vehicles, Community Transit, Public Works, City Officials, School Buses, School Vans, Police Vehicles, Emergency Vehicles and Fire trucks.

Some of these vehicles would be changed as the lease runs out  others may be retired in place.

**Hybrid Vehicle Information http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/hybridtech.shtml

Infrastructure Items :

*Water & sewer lines

**Road /sidewalk repair

***Abandoned business and residence structures

We need to come up with proactive plan not a reactive plan and I believe that the Master Plan of the city will answer these needs on a going forward basis and on an individual case basis.

*Here are a couple of links dealing with sewer and water lines.

Sanitation

*Rodent infestation

We need to come up with a plan to systematically exterminate and eliminate this situation.

*One success story for this city.http://www.businessinsider.com/big-data-solves-somervilles-rat-infestation-problem-2015-6

Water supply

*Irrigation wells

Everybody complains about their water bill. How about an irrigation well not only for residents but for the City of Livonia. This plan will allow you to water your lawn if it passes the stipulations in City Ordinance *13.40.040 Exception Part E.

TAX ABATEMENT

TAX ABATEMENT

I accept the fact that this is a good incentive to bring businesses into your community. I do think that they should be used in a different way. For instance, instead of awarding the incentive upfront I believe that they should be issued after 5 or 10 years. Comments ?

I think a couple of other tax breaks should be allowed to residents who live here10,20 or 30 years. The other tax break should go to senior citizens that are 60+ years old.

What do you think ? Comments ?

POLICE PENSIONS

Police Pensions are causing a concern for Public Safety. Here are a couple of looks to give you an idea what is happening. We are losing our Livonia Officers to sister cities because they have a better pension plan.

OPIOID CRISIS

The Opioid crisis is nationwide. We do have some fine organizations like Livonia Save Our Youth and Growth Works. We need to learn more about this crisis and how to help. The following link will help explain some of our challenges.
